Title

UTILITY OF FOLDSCOPE TO DETECT MICROORGANISMS PRESENT IN AIR

Abstract

Foldscope is a form of affordable unique form of microscope. It is a user friendly microscope for many researchers in remote place. Not only students and researchers, but many common people are very much curious to visualize microbes, which are present in their day to day life. Every day we are encounter millions of microorganisms during lifetime through air. To investigate organism present in air we have collected air samples from different locations like house, malls, industrial area and other public places. Filters which contain air samples were placed on nutrient agar for observation of microbial growth. Nutrient agar, which exposed for microbial growth at different time points also incubated at room temperature and Incubated at 37◦C for 2-3 days Observation: Plates were observed for microbial growth and the colonies were stained and slides were focused under foldscope. Images captured with help of foldscope and cellphone cameras. Images were compared with light microscopy. Result: Observed colonies were tested for Gram staining, observed bacterial population were diverse population, both Gram positive and Gram negative were observed.. Conclusion: This study clearly demonstrates the visualization of microbes present in the air is possible with help of foldscope.
