Title

Impact of Gender and Religion on Personal Value and Self Disclosure among College Students of Ranchi District

Abstract

Background: A value is a belief, a mission, or a philosophy that is meaningful. Whether we are consciously aware of them or not, every individual has a core set of personal values. Values can range from the commonplace, such as the belief in hard work and punctuality, to the more psychological, such as self-reliance, concern for others, and harmony of purpose. Self disclosure: Self-disclosure is an important building block for intimacy; intimacy cannot be achieved without it. We expect self-disclosure to be reciprocal and appropriate. Self-disclosure can be assessed by an analysis of cost and rewards which can be further explained by social exchange theory. Most self-disclosure occurs early in relational development, but more intimate self-disclosure occurs later. Aim and objectives: To examine the level of personal value and self disclosure and impact of gender and religion on personal value and self among college students. Methodology: It was college based study. Total 480 participants were selected for the study by using purposive sampling technique which is divided into 2x4 factors. Tools used were personal value questionnaire and self disclosure inventory. Result: findings indicate that female students have more personal value than male students and male students have more self disclosure than female sample groups. Conclusion: The study concludes that significant impact of gender on personal value and self disclosure among college students.
