Abstract
The Short Story is a comparatively recent development in English literature. If we are asked what is meant by a short story we need only say it is a story which is short. A short story typically takes the form of a brief fictional work, usually written in prose. Being a form of literature, the short story has to fulfill the few requirements. But ‘shortness’ or ‘brevity’ and story - telling are the main ingredients of this form.
