Title

Antimicrobial and Optical Properties of Alumina Nanoparticles Synthesized by Leaf Extract of Azadirachta Indica

Abstract

In the present work, Alumina nanoparticles are synthesized using leaf extract of Azadirachta Indica. The synthesized sample was characterized by XRD, HRTEM, FESEM, EDS, UV–Vis, FTIR, and PL. The antimicrobial activity of the synthesized sample is also investigated by the Disc Diffusion method. It is found that Alumina nanoparticles synthesized by leaf extract are stable, show optical properties, and are good antimicrobial agents. This method of synthesis does not contain any harmful chemical, so this process of synthesis is eco–friendly, effortless, and rapid. By XRD pattern phase of synthesized Alumina nanoparticles is confirmed and the average particle size is found to be 18.809 nm. By HR - TEM analysis, the particle size of synthesized nanoparticles ranges from 18 nm to 25 nm. By FESEM, it is found that nanoparticles are spherical. From EDS analysis, the presence of Aluminium and Oxygen is confirmed. By FTIR analysis presence of Al – O band and bio—functional group is confirmed. By UV–Visible spectroscopy the energy band gap is found to be 2.59 eV. Photoluminescence spectroscopy confirmed the energy band gap of as synthesized Alumina nanoparticles is 2.22 eV. Hence, the present study it is concluded that Alumina nanoparticles synthesized here has a smaller band gap than their bulk counterpart. It is also concluded that Alumina nanoparticles are good antimicrobial agents.
