Title

Surface Water conservation pre and post independence periods in Tamilnadu

Abstract

In India water management and conservation is a difficult task, especially the state like Tamilnadu with blowing up population, and several social issues such as disputes sharing of surface water like Karnataka kerala and Tamilnadu, Trans-boundary Rivers, resettlement and rehabilitation issues during project implementation, corruption and vested political and regional interests. With the increase in population, reliable water is becoming a scarce resource. The fast growing population has results in the fast urbanization and increasing demand for water from various sectors of the state economy. This requires an understanding the various sources of water storage and the demand arising from various sectors. The principal source of water for Tamil nadu is the southwest monsoon and north east monsoon with the increasing demand for water from various sectors like, agriculture, household industries, a significant need arises both from the government sector as well as from the private sector to conserve of water resources. Tamil Nadu is perennially deficit of water. Is it because not enough dams have been built? or is it because administrators are showing a lack of interest in constructing dams? The present paper attempts to provide a which government or which ruling party has conserve more water in Tamilnadu.
