The paper analyses the doctoral theses in the departments of History and Political Science in the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar during 1973-2018. The study depicts the quantum of research output in the form of doctoral theses gender-wise, year-wise distribution, gender-wise supervisors and their research productivity and page-wise distribution of doctoral theses. Based on the bibliographic records of doctoral theses submitted to the university library, the database was created and analyzed. The findings show that 144 doctoral degrees are awarded in both the departments and the highest growth rate is 21.53% during the time span 2011-2015. Male research scholars (52.08%) are dominant in research work. 29 research supervisors are engaged in guiding doctoral students and the productivity of male supervisors is high (88.19%) as compare to female supervisors (11.81%). 41 (28.47%) doctoral theses have a length of 201-250 pages.
