Title

Influence of Silicon Carbide and S-glass fiber on Tensile Properties of Al-8011 Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites

Abstract

Metal matrix Composite are the type of hybrid composite materials which are developed to achieve enhancement of the properties of the reinforcements contained in those MMCs. The matrix of lighter non-ferrous materials exhibits the improved mechanical properties and this will be primary objective while developing MMCs. The present work is concentrated on making of hybrid aluminium composites composed of aluminium8011. Silicon carbide and s-glass fibre. The reinforcements are silicon carbide and s-glass fibre. This fabricated MMCs are approached to carry out mechanical properties such as tensile properties by using UTM. Metal matrix composites (MMCs) shows noticeable improving of properties such specific strength, specific modulus, goo damping capacity, and good wear resistance. These properties are marked ahead of unreinforced alloys. Therefore, the interest to develop these types of MMCs by adopting economical reinforcements. There has been an increasing interest in composites containing low density and low-cost reinforcements. The current research work has been focused on the utilization of silicon carbide and S-glass fibre in useful manner by dispersing in variable quantity into Aluminium-8011 to produce Hybrid MMCs by stir casting method and there by investigating its mechanical properties of Al8011 metal matrix hybrid composites. Hence, it is noted to form a new class of composite. Al8011 alloy reinforced with Silicon Carbide and S-glass to form MMCs using graphite crucible for casting. The MMC is obtained for different composition of SiC and S-glass fibre.
