Hydrogels are water-swollen 3-dimensional networks made of polymers, proteins, small molecules or colloids. They constitute a versatile platform for drug transport due to their potential to encapsulate and defend drugs and provide sustained and/or remotely programmable spatial and temporal release and have for that reason generated a extensive quantity of studies for the transport of both small active compounds or biopharmaceuticals. Hydrogels have attracted notable interest during the last decades, in view that they may be used for lots of applications, inclusive of drug delivery systems and scaffolds for tissue engineering and repair. “Click chemistry”, particularly copper (I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC), has been broadly used in the preparation of complicated architectures, which include hydrogel networks, because of its response specificity, quantitative yields and proper useful organization tolerance. The purpose of this evaluation is to give the synthesis and similarly use of “click” hydrogels composed of in the main herbal components, using Cu as a catalyst or, following the latest trends, through a copper-free method.
