Title

IDENTIFYING THE INFLUENCIAL SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION INDICATORS IN THE SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE INDUSTRIES USING DEMATEL

Abstract

The global challenge of industrial pollution has engulfed businesses and organizations. From MSMEs to MNCs, there is a widespread social consensus about the idea of sustainable development. India's extensive manufacturing has propelled it to the fifth-largest economy in the world. The production industry contributes significantly to the economy by creating a large number of jobs. The study specifically focuses on the sustainable production indicators (SPIs) in light of this. The organization will be able to identify the crucial next measures it has to take to increase its efficiency and competitiveness by analyzing the sustainable production indicators. However, managers find it difficult to analyses the sustainable production indicators because it necessitates a thorough analysis and a lot of effort. Moreover, the sustainable indicators are highly interdependent and it requires managers to put in a lot of time, effort, and extensive study into it. The body of literature that focuses on SPIs is severely lacking and needs more attention. The literature and the cooperation of experts from business and academia were used in this study to identify the sustainable production indicators. The objective of this work is to develop a framework for causal relationships between sustainable production metrics. This study attempts to discover distinctive SPIs and underlying interdependencies among significant indicators in order to provide a framework for sustainability issues. Using the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique, the correlations between these indicators are examined. Twenty-four indicators of sustainable production were chosen for the study from the background of pertinent literature. Twenty companies in south India were sent the questionnaire in order to conduct the analysis. With the use of an expert's judgement and a pairwise matrix, the study will determine the relative importance of various sustainable production indicators, and these indicators can also be categorized into cause-and-effect groups.
