Adolescents are the future of any country and their nutritional care is utmost important for the of society. India holds the second in the race when we talk about adolescent population in the world. Nutritional requirements are higher during adolescence than any other time in the lifecycle. Nutrition and physical growth are integrally related; optimal nutrition is a requisite for achieving full growth potential. In girls, adolescence is a distinctive period of transition from girlhood to womanhood. Adolescents constitutes one fifth of the world’s population and in India, 22.8 per cent of the total population is adolescents. Nutritionally, adolescent period is the most vulnerable period because of increased demand and requirement for rapid growth and development. In India, due to deficient nutrition, poor socio-economic conditions and gender discernment, adolescent girls face serious health problems.
