Information Technology (IT) has emerged as a powerful catalyst in the pursuit of sustainable development, playing a pivotal role in addressing global challenges outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper explores the multifaceted relationship between IT and the SDGs, highlighting how technology-driven solutions can foster sustainability across various domains. IT must play a significant role if the SDGs should be achieved as projected in 2030. The impacts of IT on sustainability are twofold: On the one hand there might be negative effects on sustainability such as the generation of electronic waste, on the other hand IT is definitely an enabler to more efficient resource usage, education and business operations which is critical success factor for achieving the SDGs.
