Title

SPIDERWEB- A GREEN NANOTEHNOLOGY METHOD IN THE FIELD OF MEDICINE.

Abstract

Spider web/cobweb is a structure created by a spider which is proteinaceous and silk is extracted from its spinnerets generally meant to catch its prey. Cobweb is used as biomaterial which is used to synthesize silver nanoparticles. Web is hydrolysed using a base and a cobweb extract is prepared and allowed to form a reaction mixture of 10:50 (Extract:AgNO3 solution) and silver nanoparticles (SNP) produced were dark brown in colour and characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM and the synthesised silver nanoparticle was subjected to antibacterial activity with E.coli ATCC 25922 , Pseudomonas aerugenosa, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Klebsiella pneumonia, Lactobacillus acidophilus MTCC 10307, Streptococcus mutants MTCC 497, by using gradient concentrations of (50µl, 100µl, 150µl,200µl).The characterisation of silver ions by UV spectroscopy showed peak at 354nm. SEM analysis showed the particle with rod shaped less than 180nm. FTIR spectrum showed peaks at 3735.08 cm¯1, 3674.03 cm¯1, 3602.62cm, 1732.36cm¯1, 1456.88cm¯1, 1384.28cm¯1 and 1018.15cm¯1.indicating that proteins were capping and stabilization of molecules in synthesising silver nanoparticles. The present study showed that cobweb with silver nanoparticle showed higher antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutants MTCC 497, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213. This material can be used to braid it to surgical sutures so that it has wide application in the field of medicine.
