ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to investigate the firm specific determinants of dividend payout in selected private insurance companies in Ethiopia over the period 2006 to 2017. The study employed quantitative research approach and explanatory research design. Random effect panel regression model was employed for 8 selected private insurance companies. The empirical results revealed that firm age, firm size, growth opportunity, lagged dividend, liquidity, profitability, risk and tangibility are significant factors for dividend payout of private insurance companies in Ethiopia. On the contrary, leverage and premium are found to be insignificant factors to determine dividend payout of private insurance companies in Ethiopia.
