Buildings situated close to each other are prone to pound when subjected to seismic excitation. It has been observed during past that when buildings are subjected to earthquakes, it has caused considerable damage. To solve this problem, application of control devices has been investigated by researchers, under various building control strategies. The present study investigates performance of two SDOF systems (buildings) coupled by a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD). The results show that when buildings are coupled with a TMD, there is reduction in their response against seismic excitation. Coupling the structures resulted in reduction in displacement responses and the problem of pounding was solved.
