Title

A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION ON KNOWLEDGE REGARDING SELECTED OPTIONAL VACCINES AMONG MOTHERS OF UNDER FIVE CHILDREN IN RURAL AREA AT NARAIYUR, VILLUPURAM

Abstract

A study to assess the effectiveness of educational intervention on knowledge regarding selected optional vaccines among mothers of under five children in rural area at Naraiyur, Villupuram. Quantitative research approach with quasi-experimental design was used for the study. The sample of 100 mothers of under five children were selected by using convenience sampling technique, among them 50 mothers were assigned to experimental group and 50 mothers were assigned to control group using lottery method. Demographic variables were collected by using structured questionnaire. Pre test was conducted to mothers to assess the level of knowledge on optional vaccines using structured questionnaire. It took about 20-30 minutes. And then educational intervention was given to the experimental group of mothers of under five children regarding optional vaccines using video. For control group no educational intervention was given. After 4 days post test was done for 20-30 minutes using same questionnaire. The collected data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. the post test experimental group mean and SD score were 15.92 and 1.82. respectively. In control group mean and SD score were 15.22 and 2.02 respectively. The calculated ‘t’ value was 13.409 which was greater than the tabulated value P<0.001. Hence the research hypothesis H1 was accepted. It was evident that educational intervention(video) were effective in improving the knowledge among mothers of under five children regarding optional vaccines. The study concludes that educational intervention(video) had significant effect in improving knowledge among mothers of under five children regarding optional vaccines.
