Title

Numerical analysis of transmission loss of sound through various materials

Abstract

Acoustics investigations of the complex situations with the help of analytical methods are too cumbersome and time consuming. The analytical methods are only suitable for the simple geometries etc. The use of finite element analysis (FEA) opened a new door to investigate the problem from different angles. FEA approach needs a very good understanding about the science of acoustics along with concepts and limitations. ANSYS is one of the good software to analyse the acoustic problems. This paper represents analysis of the transmission loss through various materials for different parameters of the sound. The acoustics source can be point source or the area source. These sources will produce the acoustic pressures on the plate as per their location and orientations. These sound pressures should be investigated. The parameters can be changed as material of the plate, distance between source and plate, absorption and damping coefficients of plate, exciatation frequency etc.The results showed that transmission loss through various plate increases with the thickness of the wall. A effective sound barrier have high sound absorption co efficient. The results conclude that material with high damping coefficient and high density is the best material for the maximum transmission loss.
