The use of plastic is increased due to its various different characteristics. More is the use of plastic; more is the waste generated. With the latest concerns pertaining to environmental pollution lead to the need for the disposal of the generated wastes. This project aims to study the possibility of using plastic waste as a binding material instead of cement in the manufacturing of tiles. The polypropylene plastic waste and sand is used in the preparation of tiles. By adding rubber powder from waste tyres and fly-ash to the polymer-sand melt, the increase in properties was studied. Different composition of tiles was prepared, characterized and evaluated as compared to the concrete tiles. The measurements of physical and mechanical properties like flexural strength, impact resistance, abrasion resistance, porosity and permeability to water were studied. Due to this cost-effective method and the inexpensive materials used, the aim of the disposal of waste and cost effectivity is achieved. The prepared tiles are less costly as compared to conventional tiles so as to make this project commercial.
