Title

Solar chimney for evaporative cooling

Abstract

The solar chimney, also known as solar updraft tower, is a proposed type of renewable energy power plant that combines a solar air collector and a chimney and utilizes the natural stack ventilation through a building. The principle of this technology is rather simple: under a large glass roof the sun warms up the air which is sucked in the central vertical cylindrical tube. In this project, we aim to use the draft created by solar chimney for passive cooling rather than power generation. Passive cooling is implemented since cooling is naturally obtained without the use of external power.
