Abstract: Inpainting is a method that aims at removal of unwanted objects or filling of missing data in a designated region of a still image or video. In this paper, an inpainting algorithm in presented for patterned textures with the help of periodic patterns extracted from the image. Dimensions of the periodic patterns are extracted from the input color image from red, green and blue (RGB) components using superposition of Distance Matching Function. Ideal periodic patterns are constructed from the input image through different statistics such as mean, median and mode. These patterns are synthesized in RGB components by titling horizontally and vertically to obtain the inpainted textures without the need of any mask. Quality of the inpainted image is evaluated through mean squared error, (MSE), peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) and visual appearance.
