Plants are rich in a variety of phytochemicals which have been found in-vitro to have antimicrobial properties. In the present study leaves of Anogeissus latifolia were screened for phytochemical and antimicrobial properties against human pathogens. Anogeissus latifolia leaves were collected from Siriya kalvarayan hills Eastern Ghats, Villupuram district and Crude extracts were obtained using different solvents such as water, methanol, acetone, chloroform, ethylacetate and hexane (in the order of decreasing polarities). Phytochemical compounds in all the extracts were qualitatively analysed, of which ethanol extract possessed various compounds. Therefore, ethanol extract were subjected for antibacterial activity against human pathogens such as E.coli, Klebsiella pnemoniae and Salmonella typhi which was as good as commercial antibiotics used. Further research in this pursuit may land up with compound from Anogeissus latifolia with antibacterial activity against human pathogens.
