This study has been undertaken to investigate a comparative study of surface roughness on various bearing problems such as slider bearing, squeeze film bearing etc. Both the types of roughness, transverse and longitudinal are discussed. Four different lubricant film shapes for the slider bearing are considered. To study the quantitative effect of roughness on the bearing, the expression for load carrying capacity is obtained from the modified Reynolds equation and then computed numerically for the different values of roughness parameters. Results are presented numerically as well as graphically. Finally, the comparison has been made between the results of different bearing problems.
