Title

Enhanced degradation of 2, 4-dichlorophenol using starch as Co-substrate in an UASB reactor

Abstract

Anaerobic treatability of synthetic 2,4-DCP with starch as an external supply of substrate (electron-donor) at an optimized mixing ratio of 20:80 ranging between 5 and 150 mg L_1 in an UASB reactor at constant HRT of 24hwas investigated.Effects of the feed DCP concentration on COD, pH, VFA and biogas were investigated.Removal efficiency of 2,4 DCP ranged between 99 % to 66.7 % and COD removal efficiency ranged between 98 % to 57.7 %. The VFA within the UASB reactor were ranging between 48-296 mg/L for various concentrations of 2, 4-DCP, indicating that the reactor was in a stable condition.
