Title

EMPOWERMENT OF THE HIGHER SECONDARY TEACHERS

Abstract

Teachers are rightly called nation builder for they play a cardinal role in the building upof the character of the future generation. Teachers infuse confidence, generate for nationalcharacter and emblems, develop societal conduct and morals and establish standards of excellence in their academic fields. Teachers are frequently regarded as the source of motivation for students. Teacher empowerment has been viewed by many researchers as promoting collegiality, providing quality professional learning, and acknowledging the impact that teachers have on student achievement. Teachers’ Empowerment Scale (TES) constructed and validated by Pramiladevi, P., and Thilagavathy, T., (2019) has been used in the present study. Sample of600 higher secondary women teachers were selected from the higher secondary schools situated in the districts of Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Vellore in the Tamilnadu state, India. Findings of the study revealed that there is no significant difference in empowerment between (i) the teachers working in the urban school and rural school, (ii) the teachers residing in urban area and rural area, (iii) the teachers teaching arts subject and science subjects and there is a significant difference in empowerment between (i) the teachers whose medium of instruction was English and Tamil.
