STUDY OF SURFACE TREATMENT OF KHIMP FIBER REINFORCED PHENOL FORMALDEHYDE COMPOSITES BY FTIR AND SEM ANALYSIS

Abstract
This research is to study the influence of surface treatment for Leptadenia pyrotechnica (Khimp) fiber reinforced composites. Leptadenia pyrotechnica fibers were chemically modified and treated with 10 % NaOH solution at 600 temperatures for 4 hour to improve interfacial strength of the composites. In this paper these untreated and treated fiber reinforced composites were characterized and morphologically analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Leptadenia pyrotechnica fibers were evaluated by FTIR to reveal the functional groups. This research seeks to explore the use of chemical modification with alkali treatment (NaOH treated) on the fiber surface and fiber surface morphology analyzed by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
