Title

A PEEP INTO THE POETIC VOICES FROM THE MARGINS: A CRITICAL READING OF NATURE POEMS FROM TEA AND BANNOCK STORIES

Authors

Abstract

Abstract: Nature can act as a great Guru, a best healer and a true guide. Eco-feminism regards the oppression of women and nature as interconnected and combines the philosophy of feminism with the principles of ecology and environmental ethics. Subjugation of natural world and of women by patriarchal power structures must be examined together. Eco-criticism studies literature and environment from an interdisciplinary point of view. It deals with how environmental issues concerning the environment and attitudes towards nature are presented and analysed. There has been a tendency to feminize nature as a caring mother. The close connection between women and nature reveals how the female speaker feels the proud of having her roots in the earth. The abuse of nature and the oppression of women often stem from the same root. This paper attempts to analyse four poems from Tea and Bannock stories: First Nations Community of Poetic Voices which addresses the Mother Earth through an eco-feminist perspective. It is a compilation of poems in celebration of First Nations aesthetic practices such as poetry, song and art that speak about humankind's active relationship to Homeland and her Beings. A deep rooted eco-feminist perspective is examined in all these poems.
