After independence, many Commissions and programs have been designed and implemented to empower the disadvantaged minority groups in India. Despite governmental efforts, and many in-novative preventive programs, school dropout remains alarming high in many states. The scenario in state West Bengal is also remarkable. The drop-out rate of the girls is more than boys in West Bengal. Also, the rate of dropout is higher for Muslim community groups than other groups. In this context, it is not only the provision of schooling facilities and quality of education but also other households and social factors that play a major role in influencing the discontinuation of ed-ucation. Such factors lead to the educational backwardness of women in general and Muslim women in particular in the State of West Bengal. This motivated the investigator to research the issues in Bagnan of Howrah in the state of West Bengal. The present paper attempts to investigate the pos-sible causes for the drop out the problem of Muslim girl students at the secondary level in of Howrah district in West Bengal. It also attempts to find if they are facing any difficulty in the pre-sent education system that is available in the selected area under study. At the end of the paper, we have suggested some preventive measures of the problem.
