Title

Studies on gas sensing performance of tin oxide thick film

Abstract

Thick films of SnO2 were prepared using screen printing technique. These films have a potential application in fabrication of gas sensors. These films were dried at 60-80oC and fired at 550oC for 30 min. I-V characteristics of thick films were measured in air. The SnO2 thick films exhibit semiconducting behavior. The gas sensing performance of thick films were tested on home-built static gas system for various gases such as: H2S, CO, CO2, H2, NH3, Ethanol, LPG, O2 and Cl2 etc. with operating temperature ranging from 50oC to 450oC. The SnO2 thick film resistor showed the highest sensitivity to H2S gas at 250oC. The film was structurally and morphologically characterized by using X-ray diffraction and SEM techniques respectively. The parameters such as sensitivity, selectivity, response and recovery time were studied and discussed.
