Title

Mathetic Programmed Instructional (MPI) Software: Its Impact on High School students in the subject of Algebra

Abstract

Mathetic programmed instructional method is the most use full method of mathematics learning. It is systematic application of reinforcement theory to analysis and construction of complex repertoires which represent the mastery in subject matter and reverse chaining instructional method for solving Algebraic problems like identities for effective learning. This study was aimed at impact of Mathetics Programmed Instructional Software in teaching Algebra at High School level on the unit of ‘Identities’ using Mathetics Programming Software. The main objective of this study was to observing the difference between MPI Software and Conventional methods of teaching. The experimental method was adopted for the study and data was analyzed using parametric tests. The experiment was conducted on 9th class students of SMRS High School, Kalaburagi district and the school have well equipped computer laboratory. 60 students who have computer knowledge were selected by random sampling method and these students were classified in two equivalent grouped design. One group was control and another group was experimental. The experimental group was consisted 30 students who were taught by MPI Software package and Control group was consisted 30 students and was taught by Conventional method of teaching. Mean, SD and t-test were used for data analysis. The researcher found results that i) there is no significance of difference between the mean scores of control group and experimental group. ii) there is significance of mean difference between scores of control group and experimental group on post test scores. iii) there was significant difference between Control group and Experimental group on post test scores in exchange groups . It means the experimental group was more significant than controlled group. The study concludes that the MPI Software is the most effective media of instruction for teaching and learning Algebra at high school level.
