Title

SOLAR DRYER SYSTEM

Abstract

Energy is the key input to drive the improve life cycle. The consumption of the energy is directly proportional to the progress of the mankind with ever growing population, improvement in the living standard of the humanity, industrialization of the developing countries like India. The global demand for energy is increasing on alarming rate. The primary source of energy is fossils fuel (like coal, diesel), which is decreasing day by day due to move energy demand and there is global warming problem due to these sources. So we need non-conventional energy sources to full fill the demand of energy. Solar dryer is one of the parts of that energy. Fruits and vegetable play an essential role in human nutrition. Most fruits and vegetables contain more water and therefore highly perishable. And water loss and decay account for most of their postharvest losses and short storage life. Therefore, preserving fruits and vegetables is necessary for keeping them for a long time without further deterioration in their quality in order to utilize their nutrition value efficiency. Nearly 30 to 40% of fruits and vegetables get spoiled during post harvesting in tropical countries. Solar dryer is a great way of food preservation. Compared to freezing/canning, solar dryer is simpler, less costly with no fuel or energy needs. Solar dried fruits and vegetables could fetch much higher prices when stored and marketed and Enables seasonal products available throughout the year. Besides fruits and vegetables, solar dryer are used to dry/roast seeds like coffee beans, peanuts and so on. Solar drying helps to overcome the inherent disadvantages of open sun drying i.e. it protects the product from unpredicted rain, wind-borne dirt and dust, infestation by insects, rodents etc.
