The deaf and dumb people encounter a lot of problems when they communicate with other people. They use the sign language for communication. Sign language uses movement of hands and facial expressions to convey the messages. But, there is no universal standard in the use of sign language. Also, people having no knowledge of sign language don’t understand the message conveyed by the deaf or dumb. This paper proposes a system which will convert hand motions into speech and text and will also send the messages on the android app. We have developed a smart glove which captures the hand movements with the help of flex sensors and gyroscope. The microcontroller (ATmega328) processes the input and displays the output on LCD in the form of text and also on the speaker in the form of speech. The text can also be sent wirelessly to a smart phone via android app. This project will help the deaf and dumb people to communicate well with other people and reduce the communication barrier.
