Title

Automated Irrigation System using Arduino and Sensors and Data Analysis for Crop Requirement

Abstract

This project is aimed at providing water automatically to potted plants without human intervention. This is in order to utilize sufficient water and not over or under do it. Soil Moisture is the best method to determine the amount of water that a plant needs. This is because the roots of a plant are buried in the soil and they absorb water and other nutrients from it. A network system of different sensors is used in this project which consists of a soil moisture sensor, a soil temperature sensor, an ultrasonic sensor, a motor pump with a pipe attached to it to ensure adequate watering of the plant. When the water content in the soil is low, it is called as wilting point of the plant. This is when the plant begins to die. Similarly, overwatering leads to puddle formation in the soil which is also fatal for the plant. This system is powered by the Arduino UNO microcontroller board. The automated system is programmed to keep a check on soil parameters using the sensors mentioned above and accordingly turn the motor on to release water into the soil. The said parameters are all stored in a micro SD Card. The data collected was then used for analysis to determine average water used in a week by a plant.
