IoT (Internet of things) is now-a-days widely used technology in order to create communication between the several types of devices. In this project we try to use the IoT technology in the grocery shop to create the communication between the cart and central server where all the data is stored. Whenever any product is placed in the cart RFID reader which is in cart automatically reads data from inexpensive RFID tags that are attached to product and displays its price and quantity. This smart cart has an option to upload the billing details from the cart to server, by this preventing the lengthy queues with zero waiting time and making inventory management much easier, as all items can be automatically read by an RFID reader instead of manual scanning by a labourer. This RFID reader needs to be powered by battery very frequently and for this we use a solar panel integrated to it. To validate the feasibility of such a system, in this work we identify the design requirements of a smart shopping system, build a prototype system to test functionality.
