Security in Wireless network is a challenging task and it is mandatory to secure a Wireless network to avoid both explicit and implicit intrusions. Inspite of several solutions proposed for detecting the attacks, data exfiltration in the form of covert communication is still possible in today’s network world. Many security appliances with both software and hardware based models have been devised to detect a particular range of pattern based attacks. However, Covert attacks take place by effectively utilizing the backdoor client by compromising host and network. In this research, a new model is proposed for detecting anomalies in wireless (Wi-Fi) networks. The proposed model comprises of Finite State Machine (FSM) with Hidden Markov model (HMM) to detect the wireless covert attack and covert communication over Wi-Fi network. The proposed model is experimentally validated using Kali Linux operating system in Intel i5 processor with 8 GB RAM. Experimental results also confirms that the proposed model outperforms the existing method in terms of accuracy.
