Title

Inclusive education is a new approach towards educating children with disabilities (RPWD act 2016)

Abstract

Inclusive Education (IE) is a new approach towards educating and developing the children with disabilities. It is very difficult for children with disabilities to have proportionate ability to learn with the normal students within the same roof. But Inclusive education on other hand brings all students together in one classroom regardless of their strengths or weaknesses or disabilities, in any field, and attempts to maximize the capability of all students. It is one of the most effective ways to promote an inclusive and tolerant society. It is known that according to new estimates of the UNESCO & Institute for Statistics (UIS), that 73 million primary school age children were out of school in excess of 110 million out-of-school children in mid-2010. Approximately eighty percent of Indian population lives in rural areas without any special provision for advance facilities, this means and amongst them there are estimated 8 million children (MHRD 2009 figures) out of school, many of which are marginalized on the dimensions like poverty, gender, disability and caste. Therefore, inclusive schools are must meet the needs of all the children in every community, society & states. What are the requirements and challenges to achieve the goal of inclusive education today? How will an inclusive environment meet the needs of children with disabilities? How can quality education be provided for all children effectively and efficiently? These are some questions which need to be addressed immediately. Central and state governments will have to manage inclusive classes. Keeping these questions in mind, this article discusses the concept of inclusive education, including important challenges and measures to implement inclusive education in India.
