Amitav Ghosh is a renowned English writer and one of the most prominent contemporary Indian writers. He has been honoured with Gyanpeeth Award, a literary award given to an author for “outstanding contribution towards literature”. Ghosh is also receiver of the Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award. “Amitav Ghosh is a path- breaking postmodern writer who talks on freedom, nationality, history, globalization, cosmopolitanism and cultural exchange etc. in his fiction. He is known for a series of novels such as “The Shadow Lines”, “The Glass Palace”, “The Hungry Tide”, “Sea of Poppies” and “In An Antique Land” etc. Amitav Ghosh reconstruct the past by forming subjective/individual history. His novels tell the challenge of geographical flexibility and cultural displacement with socio-cultural and historical significance. Postmodern historiography fiction contextualizes the Postmodern analysis of fact and fiction separated by subverting and contradicting, the modernist view of history.
