In hospital setting intravenous therapy has become a major component of patient care. Complications from intravenous infusion cause major threat to limb and life. Phlebitis is one of the major complications of intravenous therapy. A Quasi experimental study was carried out at PSG Hospitals, on 50 samples (25 in experimental group I and 25 in experimental group II) who had phlebitis. Experimental group I received magnesium sulphate with glycerine application and experimental group II received ice pack application, 3 times a day for four consecutive days. Visual infusion phlebitis scale was used to assess the severity of phlebitis; pre test and post test were conducted in both the group. The post test mean and SD of experimental group is 6.42 ± 2.54 and the calculated ‘t’ value is 2.13 which was significant at the level of p<0.05. The study findings revealed that, magnesium sulphate with glycerine was found to be quicker than ice pack application in the management of phlebitis (p<0.05).
