Affective computing is used to develop a system which can interpret and simulate human affects. This is a multidisciplinary field which explores the use of technology to enhance the communication between human and machines. This includes the field of engineering, cognitive science and psychology. The application of affect recognition system spans a wide range in the field of telemedicine, biometric surveillance, security, interactive education, video games, health monitoring, and social monitoring. The main objective of this work is to analyze the literature and understand the fundamentals and approaches in the design of affect recognition systems, its applications and also to identify the area which requires improvement and new developments.
