The Influence of different 'isms' on Islam has created a deeper impact on the idea and essence of Islam. It is challenging, especially, for the Islamic community to decide which ‘ism’ is in accordance with the true form of Islam. The idea of true principles or form of Islam again depends upon certain ‘isms’. Islam’s universal character to homogenize Muslim societies is viewed from the varied spectrum of ideology based character traits. The idea of nationalism gets estranged between universal doctrines like ummah and Khilafat. Islam’s claim to have a universal character becomes segregated into various groups, communities, sects etc. Each group base their arguments on the same sources but come out with a different understanding of the same. The paper views the concept of nationalism from two dimensions. One from an Islamist dimension and the other from a Sufi dimension.
