Title

Quality Inspection of Missiles Components Using Non-Destructive Testing Methods

Abstract

The work quality inspect the manufacturing of missile components by using non destructive testing methods involves identifying weld defects in missile components along with its rework percentage and trying to reducing rework percentage by using quality tools like cause and effect diagram and Pareto charts. While producing components many machining and welding operations are performed on raw material to get a desired shape. While producing components there may be a chance of getting discontinuities. These weld discontinuities can be identified using Non-Destructive Testing methods like Dye Penetrant test, Magnetic Particle Inspection, Radiography, Ultrasonic Testing. If identified discontinuities are repairable then they are repaired by grinding operation and other operations or else rejected for scrap with reference to ASTM standards. Repair is allowed only once. This takes time and lots many. So to reduce rework % root causes for welding defects are identified by using causes and effect diagram. These identified root causes are eliminated one by one to minimize the rework percentage. The results are shown with the help of the bar charts and Pareto charts. By implementing the analyzed data, again welding process continued and it has observed that the number of defects is reduced by 6%.
