Steel components play a major role in civil engineering applications but one of the major problem faced by steel components is corrosion. Corrosion has increasingly become a structural problem world over which effectively reduces the weight and thickness of the components which finally reduces the strength of the steel structural components. In the present work hot rolled steel specimens which are extensively used in civil engineering applications are used to evaluate the residual strength. As they are available in different diameters, the specimens with different diameters were used for the study. Hot rolled steel bars were corroded in the gauge portions to different percentages such as 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% and strength of corroded and uncorroded specimens were evaluated.
