Title

PERFORMANCE AND ANALYSIS OF SOLAR BASED THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM USING MYRISTIC ACID AND PALMITIC ACID AS PHASE CHANGE MATERIALS

Abstract

Abstract :Solar energy is abundantly available in nature which can be used for household and industrial purposes however the harnessing of power is very much less due to its intermittent nature. The thermal energy storage(TES) system using both sensible and latent warmth has many advantages like high heat storage practicable in a unit extent and its isothermal behaviour during the charging and discharging processes. Due to these benefits, in modern day years, lot of research work has been going on to conquer troubles like low heat transfer charges between heat transfer fluid and Phase Change material (PCM) in every charging and discharging methods of the PCM-based TES system. In the existing experimental investigation consequences of a blended sensible and latent heat TES system with a varying (solar) heat furnish is supplied. Investigations are achieved inside the TES system for two exclusive phase change substances (Myristic acid and palmitic acid) by various HTF flow rates(2,4 and 6 lit/min) by inserting the melted PCM in Mild Steel spherical capsules with diameter of 72 mm. Experiments are carried out in each charging and discharging strategies (Batch wise and Continuous). The outcomes exhibit that the Myristic acid PCM attains higher temperature compared to palmitic acid in much less time the distinction in charging rate is 15-18% foremost for myristic acid. The quantity of energy discharged as hot water is higher for Palmitic acid compared to myristic acid and also in monetary factor of view the cost of Palmitic acid is lesser than Myristic acid in Indian market so the Palmitic acid PCM acts as optimal choice for Thermal Energy Storage system.
