Tall building when subjected to strong wind induces vibrations in structure. To reduce these vibrations various techniques are available, provision of opening is one of them. In this paper effect of tapered opening for unidirectional wind is being investigated. Due to tapered opening wind experiences increase in wind velocity, this increase in velocity applies stabilizing force on building and reduces the wake zone. Comparison of response of building with tapered opening and without tapered opening is being investigated. Variation in wind velocity and pressure experience by building is investigated in STAR-CCM+, these forces are applied on SAP2000 model to get the response. Diameter of opening on windward side is kept constant which is 15m and effect of diameter of opening on leeward side on exit velocity of wind is investigated. Exit velocity of wind is maximum when opening diameter on leeward side is 8m and maximum discharge is observed when exit diameter is 10m. Provision of tapered opening reduces wake zone and reduction in maximum displacement is 15.64% and maximum drift is 17.7%.
