The study aims at studying and analyzing the current approaches towards renovation of indigenous churches of Kerala how each renovation affects the community as well as the spatial and spiritual character of the church. Renovation of old churches arises mainly out of necessity for its maintenance and upkeep, or to cater to its growing congregation. Addition of structures which do not blend with the fabric of the existing structure or demolition of historical churches for the same leads to loss of these priceless edifices of architecture and culture. Intervening and changing aspects without proper knowledge can affect these long continued traditions. Hence, there needs to a set of guidelines that dictate the norms for renovation and maintenance of traditional churches, otherwise it can lead to a loss of culture and heritage of a region.
