Title

Parametric Investigation on Process Parameters For Improved Structural Strength Using Laser Welding

Abstract

Laser welding is having wide applications in aeronautical, automotive, electronics and other manufacturing industries. The main objective of this research work is to analyze the effect of welding input process parameters such as peak power(kw), pulse width(mm) & frequency(Hz) for achieving optimum Processes responses such as Tensile Strength(N/mm2(or) Mpa), Bead width (mm) & Surface Roughness(µm) simultaneously While Laser beam welding on the Martensitic SS430L. A series of experiments are conducted to find the optimimum parameters based on Taguchi technique. ANOVA is performed to known Percentage of contribution of each input parameter on processes responses. It is found that the optimum values obtained by using soft computing technique are in close agreement with the experimental values. The optimum range of welding parameters to produce a quality weld the optimum parameters are identified for SS430L is peak power-135kw, pulse width-4mm and frequency-8Hz.
