Title

NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF CRACKED BEAM WITH VARIOUS POSITION OF POINT MASS

Abstract

This report presents the study of Natural frequency of a cracked beam. Along with usual loading conditions a beam is also subjected to fatigue loading. Due to fatigue loading and environmental condition, probability of crack formation in the beam increases. The natural frequency of structure changes as the crack is formed, thus it is important to study the change in natural frequency of structure and prevent accidents in future because of formation of crack. This study also contributes to predict the location and depth of the crack in the beam. This study includes the use of point mass whose position can be varied over the beam. To perform the above stated analysis a prototype needs to be built. The natural frequency of beam is calculated numerically as well as experimentally to validate the results. Numerical analysis is carried out for different position of point mass for three different conditions i.e. by changing the position of crack in the beam, by changing no. of crack and by changing the depth of crack.
