Title

Schiff Bases Of 4-Benzoyl-1,3-Diphenyl-5-Pyrazolone Bearing Sulphanilamide And Sulphamethoxazole Moieties-Spectral Characterization, Anticancer And Antimicrobial Activities

Abstract

Abstract: 1,3 -diphenyl-5-pyrazolone (DPP) was synthesized by reacting phnenylhyrazine and ethylbenzoylacetate. It was characterised by melting point. It was benzoylated using benzoylchloride. The benzoylated product (BDPP) was characterised by melting point. BDPP was condensed with Suphanilamide and Sulphamethoxazole to form the Schiff bases SB1 andSB2 respectively. The Schiff bases were characterised by infrared spectra, electronic, 13C NMR, 1H NMR and Mass spectral studies. The structure proposed for the Schiff bases are displayed . Kirby Bauer disc diffusion technique was used to study the antibacterial and antifungal activities. They were found to be active against the gram negative bacteria Pseudomonas eruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus and the fungi Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. Cytotoxicity studies were carried out on SB1 Schiff base. It was found to be active against A549 human lung cancer cell lines. Hence these Schiff bases may be used as lead compounds in pharmaceutical industries.
