Objective: Aim of the present study was to evaluate the antihyperlipidemic activity of hydro-alcoholic extract of leaves of Cordia dichotoma on high-fat high sugar diet-induced model in rats. Material and methods: Adult Wistar rats of 150-200 g were used for the study. The model was developed using a high-fat oral diet (Vanaspati ghee: coconut oil, 3:1 v/v) and (Bread: biscuits, 1:1 w/w) along with 25% fructose (high sugar) added in drinking water over 42 days. Atorvastatin (2.1 mg/kg/day, and HACD (300 mg/kg/day) were administered after initiation of the HFHS diet and continued for another 42 days. Before, during and after the treatment food and water intake, body weight, lipid profile, blood glucose level, were assayed. Results: HFHS diet significantly increases the body weight, blood glucose, & lipid profile. Treatment of standard & test drugs significantly decreases body weight, blood glucose level and serum lipid profile such as total cholesterol, LDL-C and increasing serum HDL-C. Conclusion: In conclusion, we can say that Cordia dichotoma leaves extract to have hypolipidemic activity and significantly improve lipid profile levels in diet-induced experimental rats.
