Consumerism leads to economic development in a free market economy. In a free market economy, the resource allocation and distribution is mostly done based on profitability. At times this might affect the performance of the economy and might drift away from the basic objective of social justice. However after one and half decades of liberalization, we can't do away with positive and negative effects of liberalization. But we have to cope up with them and develop alternative policies for better economy, better economic growth and better planet for future generations.
