Title

FREQUENCY AND SPECTRUM OF MORPHOLOGICAL MUTANTS OF GREEN GRAM (VIGNA RADIATA (L.) WILCZEK). VAR VAMBAN – 3 IN M2 GENERATION

Abstract

Green gram (Vigna radiate (L.) Wilczek) is one of the important short duration pulse crop of India and known for its excellent source of high quality protein. The present investigation was carried out to study the spectrum of chlorophyll and viable mutants of EMS, DES and SA treatments in green gram (Vigna radiate (L.) Wilczek) var vamban- 3. The spectrum of chlorophyll mutants such as xantha, albino, chlorina and viridis, viable mutants such as tall, dwarf, early flower, early maturity, late maturity, bushy, high yield and seed mutants were observed in these mutagenic treatments. Among the chlorophyll mutants xantha was found more in number. The mutation rate of EMS was higher in than that of DES and SA. More number of chlorophyll and viable mutants was observed in EMS treatment when compared with DES, SA and control.
