RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TECHNOLOHY AND WORK STRESS AT TOURISM BUSINESS

Abstract

Stress is a serious and enduring problem in the workplace. The last few decades have brought about dramatic changes in the nature of work in organizations. The introduction of new technology, particularly the use of computers, in the workplace, coupled with huge shift towards globalization and privatization with its inherent features of mergers, acquisition, strategic alliances and downsizing, restructured the functioning of industries. When it goes beyond this limit, stress becomes distress, which is difficult to manage. Information technology in the workplace can have different reactions among people. New technology can be considered to be good - for example, when the computer program completes the work in a quicker time than the previous system - or equally, to be detrimental - such as when the printer breaks down continually. Major objectives was to study the sources of stress among employees and to study on the psychological and behavioral consequences of stress on the respondents. The study was conducted in the five start hotels in Coimbatore which is related to tourism industry. The responds were employees working in five star hotels in Coimbatore. The data was collected through structure questionnaires. Simple sampling technique was accustomed collect the information. Analysis was done using the software SPSS (20). After analysis it was found that to improve the stress levels of employees in hotels the management should strongly focus on employee’s health and overall well-being, lifestyle assessment checks, life-skill workshops, stress management through yoga, meditation, and panic healings should be undertaken to resolve the work place stress.
